ADRP’s Executive Committee, which consists of the officers of the association, conducts ADRP business between meetings of the Board of Directors; recommends to the Board new or modified policies; and implements other duties and responsibilities as delegated to it by the Board. Carolyn Mihalko is the Director of Education for the American Red Cross Biomedical Services, N.E. Division. She was formerly the Director of Recruitment and Outreach for the American Red Cross Biomedical Services, Connecticut Region for over 5 years. She began her blood banking career as a recruiter in 1980 after nine years as a history/herstory teacher. Carolyn was at Florida Blood Services for 17 years in the roles of account manager, director of recruitment and collections, director of education and Vice President of Community Relations. She then worked as a Vice President at New York Blood Center before moving back to her home state of Connecticut. Carolyn joined the ADRP Board in 2004 and has served as the Chair of the Career Development Committee. Her past volunteer leadership roles include chairperson of recruitment committees for the Florida Association of Blood Banks, the AABB, and the National Marrow Donor Program. In 1997 Carolyn received the Florida Association of Blood Banks award for Executive of the Year and the AABB Chapman-Franzmeier recruitment award for exceptional leadership in donor recruitment locally and nationally.

Gavin Evans is Head of Marketing for the National Blood Service (NBS) in England, where he has worked for more than 10 years. His responsibilities include strategy, above-the-line advertising, direct marketing, third party relationships, management of the donor database and the provision of all national contact centre services. The challenge for the NBS is to collect two million units of blood this year, as well as meeting goal for recruitment to the British Bone Marrow Register. Gavin previously held a variety of senior sales and marketing roles, including a period of consultancy work based in Miami, Florida. In 2004 he became the first non-North American to hold a position on the ADRP board.

John Hagins is a 1990 graduate of Stockton College in New Jersey. He began his career with the American Red Cross (ARC) in 1987. John’s first eight years of his ARC tenure were spent in hospital services. John served with progressing responsibilities up to assistant director responsible for blood service delivery to more than 100 hospital customers. For the last 10 years, John has been responsible on a director level for various activities related to donor recruitment. As of July 2000, John has been the senior director responsible for all areas of recruitment, collections and marketing / communications. He is an active member of AABB and has presented on multiple topics including quality of life for collections staff, managing recruitment activities and apheresis platelet donor recruitment and collection. John was ADRP’s Finance Committee chair for 2007-08. He is also currently serving the AABB donor recruitment / public relations committee.

Mary Jane Thomsen began in blood banking in 1997 at Memorial Blood Centers in Duluth, Minnesota. During her time there, she served as donor recruiter, public relations representative and corporate relations coordinator. She and her husband moved to St. Louis in September 2006, when she went to work for Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. Currently Mary Jane serves as an industry consultant. She has been an active member of ADRP since 1997. Mary Jane has served on ADRP’s Board of Directors since 2003, was communications committee chair from 2001 to 2005. Mary Jane is grateful for her decade long career in blood banking. Great personal rewards thus far have been working with those who have given of themselves to save lives and then, in turn, meeting the families who have been touched by the simple, yet tremendously lifesaving gift of blood.

Christine M. Foran is Manager of Corporate & Community Relations for the Hudson Valley Blood Services region of the New York Blood Center (NYBC). Throughout her 18-year career at NYBC, she has worked with corporate and community leaders from New York Blood Center’s Volunteer Blood Donor Campaign on a multitude of projects ranging from industry-based competitions to the High School Blood Donor Championships, sponsored by the New York Yankees. She has also been in charge of various recognition programs honoring donor chairpersons and bone marrow donors. Currently, Christine supports a team of Corporate and Civic leaders in the Hudson Valley region, which includes several representatives from the Archdiocese of New York, IBM and the Bronx Borough President. She has been a member of ADRP since 1991. She has served as ADRP Conference Chair and Awards Co-Chair. She was also a member of both the ADRP Nominating and Corporate Partnerships Development Committees. She has a background in Marketing Research and Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Sociology and Communications from the State University of New York in Plattsburgh. Christine gave her first blood donation in High School and while chairing the blood drive at her church she reached the eight-gallon mark.

Scott Caswell joined Community Blood Center in 2007 as Director of Donor Recruitment and Community Relations. In this position, Scott will work to implement the CBC’s donor resource growth strategies and strengthen ties to the communities it serves. In addition, he will manage the marketing and communications functions of the blood center. Scott has 13 years of blood banking experience. Most recently, he was Chief Marketing Officer for America’s Blood Centers, North America’s largest network of non-profit community blood centers. Prior to joining ABC, he was Director of Public Affairs for Memorial Blood Centers in Minneapolis, MN. He is active in the AABB Donor Recruitment/Public Relations Committee. Scott was the 2007-08 Communications Committee Chair. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Minnesota and his MBA from Strayer University.

Joe Ridley is responsible for overseeing the activities of Carter BloodCare’s operations headquartered in Tyler, Texas and for providing guidance to the management of their Waco, Texas operations. Formerly the Vice President for Resource Development at Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center in Houston, Texas, Joe has 40 years of experience in blood banking and has served in many leadership roles in both regional and national blood banking associations. He was an elected official to the AABB’s Administrative Section Coordinating Committee, served as the Chairman of their Safety Committee, and was the President of the South Central Association of Blood Banks during the 1991-1992 association year, and was the president of this association’s foundation. Joe has also served as the President of the University Area Rotary Club in Houston. He is now the Chair of the Global Network for Blood Donation’s liaison committee to the blood bank professional community. Joe has extensive experience in public relations, corporate communications, strategic planning, innovation, change management, leadership coaching, and in leading sales and marketing teams. He has authored industry publications, organized numerous seminars/workshops and executive management retreats; and he has delivered numerous presentations to industry professionals with particular emphasis on inventory management, marketing, goal-setting, and the use of automation to boost collection outcomes. One thing Joe is proud of is that he has had the honor of providing management guidance to three former ADRP presidents: Joyce Kleist, Barbara Albiniak, and Marianne Timm. This past year, Joe has served on the ADRP Global Programs and Career Development Committees.
