Blood Donor Recruiter Education and Certification Program is being developed for Africa

Global Blood Fund (GBF), a 501(c)(3), is collaborating with the Africa Society for Blood Transfusion (AfSBT) and ADRP to produce a series of 12 half hour video-cast modules for online distance learning. Topics will cover multiple aspects of donor recruitment, retention and management, a much-neglected discipline in Africa and elsewhere. This despite the fact that a shortage of volunteer donors is, arguably, the biggest challenge facing that continent and much of the rest of the developing world.

Each c.30-minute module, a high-quality, professionally narrated video presentation, will be written by an expert African practitioner to ensure that content is relevant to blood bankers in low and middle-income environments and where  paid and replacement donation is commonplace. The delivery platform will take registered users through the video series in sequence, punctuating the course with a series of multiple-choice exams to ensure content has been understood. At the end of the series successful candidates will be awarded Certified Donor Recruiter status, evidenced by the digital provision of a personalized certificate. Full metrics of uptake and completion will be available. Completion is scheduled for December 2019, or before.

Access to the course will be, inter alia, via the website of the Africa Society for Blood Transfusion and further promoted through their network of regional and country representatives.

ADRP, an International Division of America's Blood Centers, is a 501(c)6 non-profit organization.
