This presentation will speak to the history of AABB as a professional organization.  The rationale for AABB Standards and how they are set and revised will be explained.  The use of the AABB accreditation process for risk mitigation and peer to peer performance improvement will be discussed.  Ways to use both the standard process and the assessment to improve your organizations performance will be explained.

Speaker:  Anne Chenoweth, Senior Director Accreditation and Quality, AABB

Anne Chenoweth obtained her Masters from Johns Hopkins University and her certification as a quality auditor from the American Society for Quality.  Anne took her first steps toward a career in blood banking and transfusion medicine at the University of Virginia, where she received her bachelor of science/medical technology degree.  She has worked as a medical technologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital and as a sales representative for Curtin Mathison Scientific.  Anne was the manager of the transfusion service at Montgomery General Hospital for 20 years.  In that capacity she took a leadership role in numerous redesigns, both operational and organizational.  Anne has worked closely with the African Society for Safety in Blood Transfusion and the Brazilian Association of Hematology and Hemotherapy.
